”The John Wesley Inn is one of only three remaining owners/Innkeepers,
living on premises full time, who operate their B&B here in Cape May.”
Welcome to the John Wesley Inn and Carriage House, a Cape May Bed and Breakfast Inn situated among the historic Stockton Row Cottages.
Queen Victoria’s reign ended over a century ago, but the grandeur and glorious reminders of that delightful era are preserved in Cape May. The homes in this quaint little fishing village are a rare collection of Victorian architectural styles. The vibrant colors applied by creative artisans and the intricate gingerbread trim of these homes awaken…stimulate the senses with an invitation to enjoy our village’s Victorian past.
Bed and Breakfast…The John Wesley Inn a Cape May Bed and Breakfast, on a quiet street in the primary Historic District, is a Carpenter Gothic structure and one of the original Stockton Row Cottages built in 1869 as part of the grand Stockton hotel complex. The hotel was demolished in 1911, but the cottages remain as a reminder of that elegant time. The restoration of the John Wesley Inn was meticulously researched. Attention was given to every detail in order to return the Inn to its original beauty and grandeur. Purchased by Bonnie and Lance Pontin in 2005, the Inn remains one of the finest examples of a true Victorian restoration found anywhere.
The Pontin’s live on the premises and each morning, Bonnie prepares a delicious and carefully varied breakfast. Breakfast is served to the guests in elegant fashion with linens and silverware rather than a self-serve buffet. We are unable to cook to order. The dining room table is theme and holiday decorated to visually add to your dining experience (see gallery).
After a day at the beach, site seeing and shopping, return to the John Wesley Inn for afternoon tea and refreshments. Rock on the porch while sipping tea and admiring the horse drawn carriages passing by.
With on site paved parking and being located in the heart of the Historic District, evening plans become easy since restaurants, shops, theaters and the new convention center are all just a short walk away from this beautiful Cape May Bed and Breakfast.
Every Suite and Room features both a private bath and all-season fireplace for guest’s pleasure. The rooms are romantically appointed with lace window treatment, oriental carpets and Victorian antiques.
The John Wesley Inn also offers two Carriage House vacation apartment rentals. Apartment “B” is a one bedroom, one bath and apartment “A” is a two bedroom, two and half bath. Please go to our “Weekly/Weekend Apt Rental” tab for additional information and pictures. The Carriage House is a wonderful vacation apartment rental!

Summer may be over, but Cape May is still hopping! Shoulder season is just brimming with things to do- from craft shows to festivals to concerts to great theater and the locals just love it. Here’s why!
“The Shoulder Season, typically beginning right after Labor Day, has the warmest ocean water of the season, continued warm days and cool, balmy nights. The summer crowds are lessened, yet the lightheartedness of the visitors still permeate the town. The Washington Street Mall is generally less bustling and the beaches are quieter; perfect for reading a good book and finishing up the last vestiges of the tanning season. The restaurants are still ready for hungry guests and the local business owners are ready to welcome all.” From Bonnie Pontin at the John Wesley Inn B&B
“ I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” Etienne de Grellet, Quaker Missionary.
